Metallic clothing has been making regular appearances on fashion runways, celebrity events, and headlines of news outlets. This year, the flashy metallic is becoming a casual fashion trend amongst influencers and a statement piece in people’s daily outfits.

When people think of metallic clothing, photos of the Hadids and Serena Williams from New York Fashion Week last year may come to mind. On Sunday, February 5, the 65th Annual Grammy Awards took place and Lizzo, an American singer, was spotted styling a metallic silver dress with ruffles and puffy short sleeves. Lizzo received the Record of the Year honor for her single “About Damn Time,” and made a strong impression in her dress as she delivered an acceptance speech on inspiration that induced a standing ovation from the crowd.

Although runways showcase eye-catching dresses, there are various other metallic designs that people can wear in their daily lives. Beyoncé’s gold leggings made headlines for the unique look, and the designer leggings were revealed to cost $100,000 USD. Designers and stylists understand that even though Beyoncé’s gold leggings were iconic, it might not be an ideal design or price consumers are looking to incorporate into their own wardrobe.

Following the trend of leather pants, metallic pants are on the rise this season. Looking past the iconic silver and gold metallic aesthetic, metallic pants now come in popular vivid colors such as pink, green, and blue. These pants are often easier to style with a simple top or crop top to balance out the metallic.

Following the fun of festive New Year’s outfits in January, metallic skirts also became popular with the collaboration of sequins and low-rise cuts. As people dress up in sparkles and daring outfits to celebrate, one of the most popular designs for metallic skirts was Danielle Guizio’s Low Rise Pailette Skirt. This skirt has been featured on celebrities like Olivia Rodrigo on Danielle Guizio’s Instagram. Danielle Guizio is a New York-based designer who founded her womenswear label in 2014 and has since been working with celebrities including the Hadids, the Kardashians, Blackpink, and Lady Gaga.

Social media informs and influences consumers of stylish outfit inspirations while guiding people on how to build their dream wardrobe. Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram produce a plethora of content related to styling guides, rising brands, and sharing personal experiences. Therefore, many influencers have created viral videos on best purchases that incorporate the styles of trending fashion.

Among them, fashion TikToker Lauren Wolfe recently shared a new approach to metallic clothing. Wolfe has grown her following by sharing outfit ideas; she has also recently worked with Selena Gomez. In her viral video, she presented metallic bikinis in the colors black, gold, and pink. The TikTok now has over 1.2 million views as people are interested in the bikini designs.

Whether we go to red carpet events or scroll through our phone, we will expect to see more metallic coming throughout the year. For people who want the metallic look, but want something more subtle, metallic boots and jewelry accessories can also make a statement. Not limited to clothing, but hop on the trend early to secure metallic in your closet and turn heads in your own runway.
